When making this new tutorial I decided to try something different once I’d finished. I took a can of PME pearl lustre spray and I built up coverage across the ruffles of the cake. The spray is great for just highlighting the ruffles just a little or you can do as I have and build up the colour gradually to change the cake completely.
What was once a mat black cake now becomes a pewter metallic finished bag. This effect will work on most colours of fondant and the PME sprays are available in many different colours so you can experiment with different combinations.
I prefer the black finish to the cake myself but as a bit of fun I thought this was a worthwhile experiment and a good way of trying out a new effect for future cakes.
